Zambia's Minister of Tourism Bungy Jumps After Aussie Girl's Ill-fated Fall

Posted Thu, 12 Jan (4 months ago)

Just read on an Aussie news site that Zambia's Tourism Minister has gone to great lengths to prove the Vic Falls bungy jump is safe.

This after Aussie tourist Erin Langworthy miraculously survived a nearly 120m fall into the Zambezi River when her bungy cord snapped on New Year's Eve. She had to swim to shore unaided, with her legs still tied together - but amazingly, she came away with massive bruising but no serious injuries.

The online footage of her plunge into the croc-infested waters went viral, dealing a blow to Zambia's tourism industry in general, and specifically to the company responsible for the Vic Falls' adrenalin pumping bungy jump.

In order to address the matter, Zambia's Tourism Minister Given Lubinda jumped off the same bridge this past weekend, and offered to jump again with Langworthy should she choose to re-take the jump herself at some future date.

Here's the video of Erin's jump...

Bungy jump South Africa

If you're considering bungy jumping in Southern Africa you may prefer to visit the Garden Route's Bloukrans Bridge bungy jump - the highest in the world... "216 m of pure adrenaline" operated by FaceAdrenalin. They have to date a 100% clean safety record...

This dude seems to have loved the experience...

I believe that is a great idea to give their tourism a boost after the accident. I think that it was just an accident and is just an isolated case. I guess they should check their equipment regularly to prevent this from happening again.
