It's been a while since we had an update from
Pumba Private Game Reserve so today we're sharing the latest news and images sent by ranger Pieter Dunn at Pumba for our Wildlife Wednesday slot. Enjoy!
Pieter writes:
"Excitement, excitement, excitement! The lambing season has finally arrived and there is an absolute outburst of newly born animals on the reserve. There are two new giraffe calves, the warthog piglet numbers are increasing every day, and not to even speak of the antelope, from Impala to Hartebeest to Blesbuck to Nyala. The only ones we are actually still waiting for are the Wildebeest, and we won't be waiting much longer. There are even a few new zebra fowls running around to add to the list. It always gives you a warm feeling to see how the reserve grows within itself and brings new life to the plains and thickets.
Three Brothers
 |
"Then there are also the three cheetah brothers who were released on the 15th of November, and what an amazing addition to the reserve. Those boys did not even wait 48 hours before the first blesbok was caught and they have not slowed down since, with a clear pattern of having a liking in the blesbok, but you see them chasing everything! We even had a sighting of them going for some zebra - enthusiasm at its best. They are still a bit hard to find, as they are still exploring their new home and spend time in a new place almost every day.
Kalahari Male
 |
"The new hippo calf is also doing very well with a few sightings out of the water. The raft of hippos are all back together now, seeing that the female leaves the raft for birth and for a short period of time afterwards. The mom is still very protective about her little one and the other hippos must still keep their distance, but it is good to see them all reunited again.
"Looking forward to an eventful high season.
The Boys

"This update is dedicated to the two Kalahari male lions who left the reserve on the 15th of December...we will surely miss the two of you and wish you all the best in your next adventure...
