The race began in Alicante, Spain on October 29 and will finish in Galway, Ireland in July 2012.
There’s no better way to follow the race than to get up close and personal at the race villages.
Cape Town Race weekend Schedule
From 9am to 9pm each day, the whole family can enjoy the Race Village experience at the V&A waterfront, as well as the chance to get up close and personal with the state-of-the-art Volvo Open 70s.
Jetty 1 is the place to be to get a taste of life on board for the 11-man crews on these wonderful ocean going speed machines. The Ride is a Volvo Open 70 simualtor that will give you a real insight into what these crews must put up with on legs lasting three weeks, sometimes more.
The 3-D cinema tells you everything you wanted to know about the boats and the race while the Grinder Challenge is your chance to see if you've got what it takes to work onboard.
Two artists from Skeleton Sea will be at the Village as part of the Keep the Oceans Clean! campaign to promote action against pollution in our oceans. People will be given a chance to join in on beach cleans and help create a piece of art.
Whatever you do, don't miss lovable Albatross mascot Wisdom as you wander the Race Village, which is open from early to late each day until the boats depart for leg two to Abu Dhabi on Sunday, December 11.
The other chance to see the Volvo Open 70s racing against each other will come on Saturday, December 10 with the second of the 10 in-port races, starting at 1500 local time (1300 UTC).
Key dates for the next few days:
- December 9 - Pro-Am Race
