Unique Theatre Production Featuring a Disabled Cast

A new South African theatre production that is bound to inspire you, as it prepares for opening night...

Soar Like an Eagle

Based on true life events, ‘Soar like an Eagle’ tells the story of Mukthar Lee who is struggling to come to terms with his disability. With the little inspiration, love, friendship and hard work Mukthar begins to challenge his limitations.

Everyone is unique. Everyone is differently-abled. ‘Anything is possible’. It only goes to show that it is not a matter of what you cannot do, but of what you can do, that defines the person you are.

“This production means everything to me. I want this production to teach everyone, especially the youth, that no matter what, you can grow past your hurt and overcome all the challenges that you face. Furthermore, this will give a new appreciation to differently abled bodies and teach those in need proper wheelchair techniques”

shares Gladys Bullock, Executive Producer and Dance Facilitator.

The first public performance of Soar Like an Eagle is a community driven show that will take place at Rocklands on the 22 May 2010. The Play is set to run at Milnerton Playhouse (12th June 2010), Grahamstown Arts Festival (23rd,24th 25th June 2010) and Theatre in the District (16th, 17th July 2010)

Writing about Soar Like an Eagle, Magdalena Zukowski of SACDA says:

The Production is based on the true life story (with threads of poetic license) about overcoming challenges and finding that part of you that shines.... The Story follows Mukthar Lee who is disabled (really) and struggles through life in his wheelchair. It's only when he meets a group of dancers (and the Inspirational Gladys Bullock) that he learns anything is possible.

Mukthar and Danielle are now ranked highly as South African Disabled Dancers in the Ballroom and Latin Styles and have gone on to show case in strictly come dancing.

The entire cast has some kind of disability, some in the fact that they come from "disadvantaged" backgrounds, others from broken homes and others have physical issues - such as Mukthar and Chaeli who are both in wheelchairs and Josh who is blind.

Ultimately it is a community youth production that merges drama into the world of these young, talented upcoming dancers. We have incorporate the casts members real stories into the workshop scenes...giving each member a chance to tell thier story....

If you are yearning for that one unequaled adventure in the most fantastic spot on earth, your Africa travel company will definitely recommend Africa. Often cited as the place where mankind had its roots, Africa offers an enchanting world of sights and sounds, spectacular sunsets that will remain in memory for years, and a unique vibrant feeling of being alive that will convert the bitterest of skeptics into a believer.
