Tree Planting at Christel House in Ottery (School for disadvantaged children)

"The day didn't start out too promising, weather wise, but turned out quite nicely! Sjoe* were we entertained before we started the actual tree planting.
We all gathered in the school hall - children from the higher grades, staff, Trees4Schools representatives, the Miss Earth team and all the volunteers.
What a fun-filled 2 hours we spent there. We were entertained by the school choir and the school band. Nik Rabinowitz, the comedian was also there and had everyone in stitches.
Trees4Schools gave a brief talk on the environment and the little things we can do to save water and we also got a "crash course" on vegetable planting!
The Vineyard Hotel sponsored all the trees - 115 !

After that it was time to get down and dirty! Kelly and I helped with the trees in the courtyard. All went well, except that we ran out of spades and had to use our hands to fill the holes with soil and sand! Even the pretty Miss Earth ladies rolled up their sleeves and dug in.
The spirit and the atmosphere was great. It was really an awesome experience and we were very proud to be a part of it. Needless to say that caring for the environment is beneficial to us ALL not just the learners at Christel House!"
Thanks Eleanor for the photos of story!
