The R400's Little Treasure

Posted Mon, 2 Aug 2010 (19 months ago)

A first time contributor to the Portfolio Travel Blog, Kevin shares his wonderful little Karoo find with other readers...

I really feel compelled to share with you all the little gem of a craft and coffee shop I stumbled across while travelling along the R400 between Jansenville and the N10.

Karoo Farm Crafts and Coffee Shop is a converted disused water tank that has been beautiful changed into a craft shop and coffee shop. As you arrive a gorgeous golden cocker spaniel,

Maggie greets you with a packet of Nik Naks, which she has snatched from the shop, this is her manner of welcoming everyone!

They sell the most unique wooden crafts, wooden buttons, bottled goods, biltong and drinks. The owner, Rene Webster bakes the most delicious health rusks I have ever tasted. She provided us with tasty, generous burgers and chips at a giveaway price of R30 if memory serves me correctly!

Rene told me she even has customers that phone ahead to place orders for toasted sandwiches...giving a whole new meaning to drivethru!

It was a most refreshing stop along a bleak gravel road...3 cheers to a wonderful establishment!
