There are three things every world cup visitor should take back to their homelands when the sporting extravaganza is over.
1. A vuvuzela. You know it, don’t fight it!
2. A love for South Africa that should be spread to all you meet – please spread the GOOD news about our beautiful country to counteract some of the negative press we get out there…
3. Copies of Evita Bezuidenhout’s South African cook book - Evita’s Kossie Sikelela.
If you don’t know who Tannie (Auntie)
Evita Bezuidenhout is, she is still the most famous white woman in SA and often finds herself in the company of the powerful and famous.
Evita is the alter ego of comedian, playwright and AIDS activist
Pieter Dirk Uys .
Both live in the West Coast town of Darling where the Evita se Peron museum offers an interesting blend of art deco fun and chilling Apartheid era memorabilia - well worth a visit. To experience the West Coast for yourself, contact Portfolio to book benchmarked West Coast accommodation.
Kossie Sikelela is a new cook book put out by Tannie Evita and is crammed with South African recipes such as green bean bredie, cumin chicken with sweet potato, pampoenkoekies and guinea fowl with sultanas and hanepoort. And of course traditional desserts such as melktert are in there as well.
The book includes recipes for diabetics as well as Kosher and Halaal dishes, and there’s plenty for vegetarians.
The book is illustrated by chef and painter Linda Vicquery and also includes full colour photographs.
The lovely Sophia Loren has penned the preface.
