On 18^th June Swellendam is proudly asserting its historical rights, re-declaring the Republic of Greater Swellendam (nothing to do with politics). 

There will be a good old fashioned kermis - a real family day, with:

• homemade-cakes and bakes
• a craft market with home crafts
• entertainment
• buskers
• dancing
• music
• good food
• fun and family entertainment . 

The Old Gaol on Church Square will be at the centre of events and will be baking Roosterkoek (traditional breads) and Melktert over the coals. The public are invited to watch them make it and buy take away slices at their open stall.
