The Billabong Pro started yesterday but things will really hot up with the arrival of the big names in international surfing all competing during the course of next week.
In JBay look out for surfing legends including eight times world champion Kelly Slater, former event winner, Billabong team rider and current World Championship Tour ratings leader, Joel Parkinson and 2006 World Champ, Mick Fanning.
A major highlight of this years event is The Clash of the Icons between all time legends Mark Occhilupo (Occy) and Tom Curren.

Billabong Pro's website enthuses:
"In a major coup for surf fans world wide, this year at the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay spectators can watch a LIVE webcast of these two superstars as they re-ignite their intense rivalry in the world's best right hand point wave, going head to head for the first time in over two decades. Stay tuned to billabongpro.com from July 9-19 to witness one of surfing's most historic duels ever at the planet's premier high performance point break. "
The international surf pros are all very vocal about their love for the small Eastern Cape town of Jeffrey's Bay and its epic and renowned waves.
Although today was declared a Lay Day due to small waves, a decent cold front is anticipated by Sunday and once the waves start pumping the competition will get underway.
If you’re in Port Elizabeth today head for the Surf Centre in Walmer Park at 6.30 pm for an Oakley sponsored signing session with surfing heroes Dave Weare, Greg Emslie, Adriano De Souza, Tom Whitaker, Dustin Barca and Shaun Joubert, not to mention Jordy Smith and Bede Durbidge.
- The event, which is Stop No. 5 of 10 on the 2009 ASP World Tour, runs from 09 - 19 July 2009
