Spend Quality Time in an Antique Wine Cellar

Posted Tue, 18 May 2010 (2 years ago)

Herman van Bon, of Soekershof, guest blogs for us about this unique experience for those who love discovering finely crafted South African artisan wines.

Only one wine cellar in the Robertson Wine Valley is “home of three 4 star Platter Wines”. You can find this antique cellar in the Klaas Voogds Valley 8 kilometres East of Robertson towards Ashton/Montagu.

Rusticus is the name, and in this vintage cellar owners Stephan and Lindi Busch create their ‘artisan wines’ the same way it was done a hundred years or so ago.  Most of their wines are sold directly in their cellar to private collectors and some top restaurants. They only produce small quantities of, amongst others, merlot, viognier and pinotage with no added sulphates.

Their cellar is very much museumlike, and a cellar tour is a real wine lover’s experience. Stephan and Lindi can also tell you about other ‘quality things to do’ in the same Klaas Voogds Valley.

We look forward to more tales from the 'dark side' - and the sunny side - of Route 62 in future, Herman!
