So when I spotted the list of the world's Most Incredible Dive Spots I just knew South Africa would be featured. Sure enough we were.
But can you guess which of the many incredible South African diving spots was on that list?
Was it:
Sodwana Bay, Kwazulu Natal featuring a 2 mile reef, Mushroom Rocks, Amphitheatre and Diep Gat?
OR
Aliwal Shoal at Umkomaas,
Kwazulu Natal featuring Raggie Cave and Cathedral City?
OR
OR
Knysna Heads along the
Garden Route featuring Knopie, The Paquita, Bruce Se Bank?
OR
Nope.

GANSBAAI, in the Overberg
Yes, Gansbaai - for that destination's world renowned shark cage diving. "Real" divers may scoff or even object (shark diving is pretty controversial) but coming nose-to-nose with a Great White really is a once in a lifetime adrenalin rush.
Here's what the article on the Lonely Planet says about Gansbaai Shark Cage Diving:
Move up the food chain, from hammerheads to great white sharks, as you climb inside a metal cage and come nose to snout with the ocean’s most fearsome predator. Watch in awe, even as you wonder about the cage’s strength, while the 6m-long great whites circle. Dive operators off this Western Cape town use bait to attract the sharks to the cage, virtually guaranteeing sightings (and controversy). You’ll find operators based in Hermanus, though the boats leave from Gansbaai, 35km away. Cage diving costs around ZAR1100 per person. Transport from Cape Town is offered by most operators and personalised DVDs/videos are usually available too
Portfolio Collection offers a fine selection of Gansbaai accommodation, If you've always wanted to go Shark Cage Diving in Gansbaai, why not stay in one of our Gansbaai B&Bs or Guest Houses.
