I’m not the world’s biggest ballet fan, but I have loved the various ballet performances I’ve seen over the years. It’s a bit like opera or musicals – while I don’t rush off to see the latest shows in Cape Town I still like to know that we have the performing arts available to Capetonians and visitors to the city – right across the board. I feel that without the multiple layers of art and things of beauty the city would be poorer and less whole, and this would affect us all.
So it was with genuine sadness I learned that Cape Town City Ballet is in real danger of having to close its doors. This company is an institution of our city and we need to do all we can to save it from an untimely demise.
As part of an online campaign to make the public aware of the troubled times Cape Town City Ballet is currently facing and to help raise much needed funds – this is OUR company, all of us who live in this city, ballet-lovers of not.
