SA Wines and Winemaker Shines

Posted Mon, 1 Dec 2008 (3 years ago)

Kanonkop's Abrie Beeslar is International Winemaker of the Year 2008, proving once again that South Africa can more than hold our own in the Internation wine-fields.

The 2008 International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) was held in London on 18 November, and a delighted Abrie Beeslaar from Kanonkop Estate (a top Pinotage winery on the Stellenbosch wine route) walked off with top honours as Winemaker of the Year.

The Kanonkop Estate was also recognised for their Paul Sauer 2003 which received the Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande trophy for the best blended red wine as well as the Dave Hughes Trophy for the Best South African Producer.

Abrie was quick to share the credit with the team, including Mother Nature, saying,

"...I do know that the success belongs to the whole team working in the cellar and vineyards, as well as those who promote our wines throughout the world. But nothing equals the importance of nature with which we are blessed on Kanonkop. It's the soil and the climate that produces the grapes for the wines I am able make to the kind of quality that we are lucky enough to receive this kind of recognition for."

Why not share in their success and celebrate this festive season with some of Kanonkop's excellent wines - it'll make for a great dinner-conversation starter and guests will feel extra special knowing they're being treated to award winning wine!
