Posted Mon, 20 Oct 2008 (4 years ago)

Lock up your wives and girlfriends - football star and sporting celeb David Beckham will be heading for SA next month.

He may have been voted ‘celebrity with the most annoying accent’ in the UK, but David Beckham is unlikely to be losing much sleep over that. The football star is still arguably the world’s most instantly recognizable sportsmen with his pretty-boy looks, celebrity wife and undeniable talent on the field.

South African football fans are elated at the news that Beckham will be in South Africa this November to take part in Soccerex 2008 – the biggest business-to-business soccer convention in the world. The occasion, which FIFA President Sepp Blatter describes is a must-attend event in the football calendar, will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, from 23 – 26 November 2008.

In addition to the address on football branding he will be delivering at the centre, Beckham – who is currently based in Los Angeles where he is a midfielder for Galaxy – will also be conducting football clinics for local youth.

South Africa’s preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup will under the spotlight during Soccerex. Over 4000 delegates representing 95 countries are expected to attend.
