SA Passport Security Bumped Up

Posted Thu, 9 Apr 2009 (3 years ago)

SA Home Affairs are working towards combating the illegal use of travel documentation. New security measures to ensure the legitimacy of SA passports will be implemented from this month (April 2009).

So if you are applying for a new SA passport you’ll be getting one that includes new security features. This will also involve tightening up of procedures associated with applications for identification documents and birth certificates.

The main aim is to clamp down on non-South Africans who are using existing loopholes in the system to obtain SA identification.

An online fingerprint verification system is being put into place which will be used at immigration points to ensure a match – this will play a major role in putting a stop to illegal use of South African travel documents.

I have been looking around for this kind of information. Will you post some more in future? I’ll be grateful if you will.

That makes sense. Fingerprinting is the only way to stop false identification.
