South African architecture was once again in the spotlight this month when Peter Rich Architects won the World Building of the Year award at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona, Spain.
Rough and earthy in appearance, it imitates, and blends well with, the surrounding landscape and was crafted using sustainable methods and materials, incorporating the skill and labour of local residents in both the designing and building phases.
Sixty seven countries were represented, and 15 finalists were chosen from a shortlist of 272 projects by industry experts.
