Pumba Ranger Diary and Wildlife Images 24 May 2010

Posted Wed, 26 May (3 months ago)

Another wonderful glimpse into the world of a game ranger, through the ranger diary and camera lens of a Pumba Private Game Reserve ranger.

But first - exciting news from the Pumba family...

Each week, Pumba's head game ranger Richard Pearse sends us a round up of animal photos and sightings - but last week there was no word from him. I soon found out why when he sent me the happy news that he had been attending the birth of his own 'cub' - a baby boy!

Congratulations to Richard and his family on this wonderful news from all at Portfolio Collection!

And thanks to ranger John de Jager for stepping in and providing the following diary clip and images from Pumba in Richard's place.

A great week of sightings of white lion which were seen everyday this week. The white lioness seems in fantastic condition and there seems to be less fighting amongst the ranks.

The winter temperature is also producing fantastic day time sightings of hippopotamus out of the water sunbathing and feeding which is lovely as during the summer months it is really only possible to view them out of the water at night.
