Another round up of happenings in the Eastern Cape bush with Pumba Private Game Reserve's weekly Ranger Diary and images...
Ranger Diary
14 June 2010
The White Lion have been seen frequently over the past week, with the pride being sighted feeding of a Wildebeest, accompanied by the White Lioness. It has been noted over the past month, the pride associating with the White Lioness more, which is very encouraging for the conservation department. Their habits will continue to be noted.
The pride in the main section of the reserve, continue to do well, though with limited sightings of the cubs, due to the very windy and wet conditions that the reserve has been experiencing to date. We received a most welcomed 40mm of rain last week.
The Elephant and Rhinoceros calves continue to grow, providing visitors to our reserve, with memories not to be forgotten, observing them carrying out their boisterous play, as they develop their individual natures of becoming adults.
With winter around the corner, we await the arrival of our winter migrants, of which the Steppe Buzzard is the most common. The birdlife on the reserve continues to amaze all that have the opportunity to visit, the Valleys are coming to life with amazing colours of oranges, reds and yellows as aloes start to throw out there flowering spikes, filled with nectar for the taking.
