Potchefstroom (affectionately known as Potch by the locals) is situated on the banks of Mooirivier in South Africa's North West Province. This large academic town with its renowned North West University has an active student life. It is also home to a farming community, as a large chalk factory, over 200 species of birds and the largest oak tree lined avenue in the Southern Hemisphere!
Potch is also the venue for an annual
Art and Antique Fair which takes place at the
President Pretorius Museum. Of course this means there are plenty of collectables for art and antique lovers, along with food stalls selling everything from pancakes to potjiekos.
While you’re there, have a family portrait taken in 18th century costumes.
