Posted Thu, 20 Sep 2012 (8 months ago)

Guesthouse owners and Cape based families wanting to start growing their own herbs and veggies, this one's for you...

Cape based OwnGrown has launched in South Africa offering you an easier way to establish your very own organic homegrown food garden from herb boxes to large productive modular food systems in urban environments.

“Our primary focus is on creating homegrown food gardens, we offer something for everyone, whether you have a small balcony or large garden. We pride ourselves on developing strong, good quality and productive food gardens to make growing your own food more accessible,” this is according to co-founder and project manager of OwnGrown, Tarryn Rice.

“The concept was born out of our passion for the environment and sustainable living in urban areas,” she adds. “We are constantly striving for a more holistic approach in every aspect of our own lives and have developed OwnGrown to share this approach with anyone wanting to live more environmentally consciously.”

Rice explains that the company is guided by the principles and ethics of Permaculture; a holistic solution-based, design science which aims to mimic systems found in nature and strives to find new innovative and sustainable ways of living in harmony with nature.

“Our experience both practical and solution driven ensures that your systems will remain productive and in a short time you will find your gardens producing more than you expected,” she adds. “Our approach is simple, we work with our clients to offer tailored solutions which aim to bring richness totheir lives. All this while having a positive impact on the environment to promote sustainability for the long term.”

“Co-founder, Mike Bird has over a decade of landscaping and systems management experience both in South Africa and abroad. His experience in facilitation and training ensures that you and your household understand how to keep your systems productive and learn the ins and outs of growing your own food garden.”

Rice says, “In addition to installing and maintaining modular food gardens and supplying living herb and vegetable gardens we also offer a number of other complementary solutions including: composting systems like worm farms, vertical garden systems, roof gardens, rain water harvesting systems, eco-cleaning products and organic garden care products.”

“We appreciate that today’s urbanites are dynamic, hard-working and incredibly busy but the offering is simple and makes a more self sufficient lifestyle accessible to anyone,”, concludes Rice.
