"I serve on a committee that works to finance an Animal Rescue Organisation outreach program called Nkonkobe Animal Care in the Eastern Cape. There are serious human and animal needs in these poor areas. A very courageous Fort Beaufort lady, Petro Heunis, has for years tried to cope with the unwanted, abandoned, often ill and injured animals of all types.  She has become the person called to animal emergencies in the area, rescuing, arranging feeding and housing countless of these unfortunate beings.  The local Vet, Dr. Carl Kritzinger, has been wonderfully supportive but cannot give all his services free of charge.  Our committee aims to provide funds to feed abandoned animals prior to placing or if they are too far gone in the opinion of the Vet, dignified death, to reduce the shortfall in medical expenses as well as to enable a future mass sterilization campaign in this area."
