We start the series off with the imposing Taal Monument in Paarl.
Die Taal Monument, Paarl
If you've never visited Die Taal (The (Afrikaans) Language) Monument set high above the Wineland's town of Paarl it is well worth a visit next time you're in this lush region.
The 'About' blurb on the official Taal Monument and Musuem website reads:
Did you know that the roots of Afrikaans can be traced back to three continents, namely Asia, Europe and Africa? The architect Jan van Wijk designed the Taalmonument (language monument) in such a way that it would give recognition to these widespread roots of Afrikaans. Visit us if you are curious to find out more!
Apart from being amazed by the unique architectural design of this visually inspiring monument, and wowed further by the incredible views in every direction, you may also enjoy the new Taalmonument walking trail which recently opened to the public. It will take you approximately half an hour to complete the trail of 1.2km. The route is easily accessible (it starts and ends right in front of Volksmond Coffee Shop).
