The book takes the reader along the journey of Mandela’s life from his early political interest right through to the present day.
According to a press release by the Nelson Mandela Foundation
(which will benefit from the sales of the book) it portrays a great man who is also human, it does not try paint Mandela as a saint.

uses excerpts from his own journals and personal letters, many written from his prison cell on Robben Island, detailing some of his darkest moments while being threaded with his own brand of humour.
The foreword is written by USA President Barack Obama.
