Lonely Planet names Cape Town an Ultimate Party City

Posted Thu, 4 Mar 2010 (2 years ago)

Lonely Planet has released its list of the world's top 10 cities in which to party.

We are delighted but not at all surprised to see that our very own beautiful Mother City, Cape Town, is on that list!

To quote from the Lonely Planet's article, Ultimate Party Cities:

Cape Town  With the 2010 World Cup bringing a global audience to South Africa, the partying will only get harder as travellers converge on a city already well known for nightlife. Luxuriate on some of the world’s best beaches by day and kick back under the moonlight at suave cocktail bars by night. Two hours east, in the Indian Ocean, lies the elegant beach village of Mossel Bay, with more great beaches and chic flair. Visitors must try some of the wines crafted by South Africa’s world-renowned vintners, either at a Cape Town bar or at one of several wineries nearby.

The full list of Ultimate Party Cities reads as follows:

  1. Belgrade, Serbia
  2. Montréal, Canada
  3. Buenos Aires, Argentina
  4. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
  5. Thessaloniki, Greece
  6. La Paz, Bolivia
  7. Cape Town, South Africa
  8. Baku, Azerbaijan
  9. Auckland, New Zealand
  10. Tel Aviv, Israel

I find this quite surprising. I have been to Cape Town several times myself and I never really feel 100% safe when I am there. But I suppose with some of the events that have happened there recently the city may have changed a lot.

Have no idea when last you were here but things have definitely improved for the better. capetonians are very proud of their city so maybe someday you will give it another go, you might just be very surprised
