Lance Armstrong to Ride in the Argus!

Posted Thu, 4 Feb 2010 (2 years ago)

Cycling superstar Lance Armstrong has confirmed that he will be participating in this year's Argus.

With the following words, tweeted on social networking platform twitter, http://www.lancearmstrong.com/ Lance Armstrong told the world that he will be coming to South Africa for this years Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour.

“Hey South Africa! Excited to come down in March. Bringing your man @darylimpey with me. And yes, we're racing The Argus. Hear gr8 things.”

Rumours that the world’s best-known cyclist would be heading our way had already been doing the rounds, and strengthened during Tour Down Under in Australia in January.

Armstrong will be participating in the world’s biggest timed cycle race together with 25 year old South African cyclist Daryl Impey (referred to in his tweet). The two will also be using the opportunity to partner with Cape Town based charity the JAG Foundation, raising funds and awareness through their participation.

The sport superstar and cycling poster-boy will have little free time on his hands while in South Africa in March. His packed schedule includes addressing an exclusive 400-person banquet , leading a 100km ride with a small group of riders and attending a breakfast for 700 – not to mention cycling the 109 km mega cycle tour!

The JAG Foundation inspires South Africa’s disadvantaged children to build a positive future for themselves, their families and their communities, by encouraging them to participate in various sport-related programmes.

By instilling sporting values for life, we aim to create an environment for South Africa’s children to fulfil their dreams and thereby rebuild communities.

Keep up to date with Lance Armstrong as he heads for SA by following him on Twitter – he’s one of a few celebrities who actually posts their own tweets rather than paying someone else to do it for him as part of a marketing gimmick.

The Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.
