Johnny Clegg at Isandlwana Lodge

Posted Wed, 1 Feb (4 months ago)

This story comes from the latest Isandlwana Lodge newsletter...

A group of winners from a recently run ‘Home Grown Tour’ promotion by Castle Lager arrived at their final stop on what was an amazing five day tour of South Africa. The tour for the prize winners started at The World of Beer Johannesburg, then proceeded to
Cape Town and Kimberley, as well as Durban, before arriving at their final destination - the acclaimed Isandlwana Lodge near Dundee. So far this South African touring extravaganza had been unforgettable, but the winners had no idea that Castle Lager had saved the best for last!

Upon the group settling into their spacious and luxurious ensuite rooms with magnificent views overlooking the historic battlefield of Isandlwana, they were asked to attend dinner only to be met by none other than the South African music legend, Johnny Clegg.

The guests and staff at Isandlwana Lodge all watched in awe as Clegg performed the best of his hits in an intimate setting. The private performance by Johnny Clegg was a complete surprise to the guests and according to Isandlwana Lodge’s coowner,
Pat Stubbs, “It was a truly special moment for all of us and it has been a real honour for Isandlwana Lodge to have been chosen by Castle Lager to form part of this very successful Home Grown Tour. Overall the winners have been ecstatic about the great trip they’ve had compliments of Castle Lager, but one of the highlights has to be the unplugged performance of “Impi” by Johnny Clegg for the first time in 30 years!”

Rudi Louw, SAB Sales Manager for Southern Cape, who hosted the winners together with the Castle Lager Brand team added “The Castle Lager team as well as the newly formed partnerships enjoyed a fantastic time at Isandlwana Lodge and we greatly appreciated the awesome service and food supplied by the lodge. It’s so nice to see a lodge whose staff worked so well together to help make the last night of the tour such a success."

Stay at Isandlwana

Travel from the fast pace and stress of urban living to the peace and tranquillity of Isandlwana Lodge, an impressive building carved into the side of the Nyoni Rock. This is the mountain on which Ntshingwayo, King Cetshwayo’s Senior General, stood to observe the Zulu warriors rendering one of the greatest defeats the British Army ever experienced in the colonies at Isandlwana on the 22nd of January 1879.

From the private balcony of your room enjoy a breathtaking view of the battlefield, plain and mountains in the distance and the village below. Watch the village come to life and then slow down at the end of the day.
