If South Africa’s big cities were to hold a get-together, Cape Town would be late, Durban would be stoked and Johannesburg would be the life and soul of the party. No surprise then to hear she's made it onto a list of the World's 10 Most Creative Cities!

Jo’burg AKA Jozi to those who love her, is well known among South Africans as the vibrant hub South Africa. And now this city with its heart of gold has been recognized as one of the top 10 World’s Most Creative Cities by the 2009 Cannes Report, beating Amsterdam, Berlin, San Fransisco and Buenos Ares among other exciting world cities.

Their success is down to the number of award-winning advertising agencies based in Jo’burg – the Cannes Report highlights official rankings of advertising agencies, regions, countries and cities based on their performance at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, held annually in Cannes, France. The rankings are based on how many Cannes Lions a city collectively achieves – Johannesburg won 17 in total!

London was ranked number one, with New York and Sao Paulo in 2nd and 3rd position.

I've never been to Johannesburg but I just recently saw the movie "White Wedding" and besides being hilarious and clever, it definitely portrayed Johannesburg as a party city. I think I know where my next vacation will be! whiteweddingmovie.com/

I lived in Johannesburg for 14 years. Believe me, it is exciting and creative. However, I am now an expat and live in the UK, wish I could go back home!

Hi Kim

What do you miss most about living in Jozi?

The lifestyle, it's nothing like it is here in the UK. There was always something to do, whether it be going for a braai, or going to the movies. It's a lot more socialable over there. Good friends, good food and good entertainment. :)
