Starring as Nelson Mandela, Hollywood's Morgan Freeman made an appearance at the movie's SA premier - he walked the red carpet at the Nu Metro theatre at Emperors Palace, east of Johannesburg.

The event was also attended by Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, actresses Leleti Khumalo and Terry Pheto, and several rugby stars from the 1995 team.

Not present was Matt Damon who stars as Francois Pienaar, captain of the Springboks at the history-making match around which the story is built.

Some have applauded the hard-to-imitate South African accents as spoken by the American stars, while others say they just haven't nailed it, again.
