Hot Heels Gravity Racing Event Hits Pringle Bay in December

23 November 2009

Looking for some action? The relaxed village of Pringle Bay may not seem the obvious choice for those who enjoy adrenalin sports.

However this December sees the South Africa Gravity Racing Association (SAGRA) holding their Hot Heels Africa 2009 event just outside of the arty seaside town in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, South Africa.

At Hot Heels the world’s best downhill skateboarders, streetlugers and buttboarders do their thing as they vie for the top positions in the final race of the IGSA World Cup Series.

According to SAGRA administrator, Justin:

"Hot Heels Africa is an awesome international event with the top 3 downhill skateboarders coming to Hot Heels Africa to fight for the number one spot...go to http://www.igsaworldcup.com and you will see that Hot Heels is the last World Cup event and an essential one to winning the number one spot.

Plus Kogelberg is again an awesome location (not sure if you have been up the access rd to the dam). It's our premium event so all the SA riders pit themselves against the international riders. Plus the world number 1 plus 2 in the women's division will also be racing."

The course comprises an intense 1.9km and is run on the Buffelstaal access road.

Hot Heels has been running since 2003 and is held each year at the beautiful Kogelberg Biosphere Nature Reserve just an hour from Cape Town. Those wishing to enter can find out all the information on the SAGRA website.

I asked Justin about the spectator-friendliness of the event and he replied:

"Hot Heels Africa is an open event for spectators, best day to come watch will be the Sunday. There will be practice in the morning and racing will commence after 2:00pm.

Bring sun block and shade if you are considering staying a few hours, it can be quite harsh out there."
