With Morgan Freeman as Madiba and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar, 'The Human Factor' is the latest movie being filmed in South Africa to draw big-name stars to our sunny shores.
The Hollywood heroes have been spotted at local rugby games, clearly picking up tips on the game for the movie which is all about the
1995 Rugby World Cup in which South Africa were victorious on home soil.
Some are calling
Cape Town ‘
Africa’s Hollywood’ thanks to her natural beauty, varied locations and comparably affordable rates. In addition, the
Cape Film Commission (CFC), responsible for marketing the Mother City to moviemakers, is actively at work year round, helping promote Cape Town to the industry and assisting them in making things run smoothly.
“…more than 50 major productions – feature films and TV series – were shot in Cape Town in the five years from 2003 to 2007, including Blood Diamond, Rendition and 10 000 BC. In 2008 no less than 22 productions were filmed in the city.”
The Human Factor, which will be directed by
Clint Eastwood, is based on the book
The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World by
John Carlin.
Iconic moment alert: Francois Pienaar (SA captain at the time) and Nelson Mandela together on screen, holding the Cup aloft in a moment that united a nation, just one year after the official death of apartheid in SA.
So keep ‘em peeled. You could spot Matt, Morgan and Clint partay-ing it up at the Waterfront, tanning on Camp’s Bay or cheering at Newlands Rugby Stadium over the next few weeks.
