Get Your Glam On for the 2012 J&B Met

Posted Thu, 26 Jan (4 weeks ago)

Grab your hat, slip on your heels and head down to Kenilworth Racecourse to cheer on the gee-gees on Saturday 28 January 2012.

It’s January and that means it’s time for South Africa’s most glamorous and prestigious horse racing event once more – the J&B Met

The event’s history can be traced back to around 200 years ago when English soldiers in the Cape invited the ladies to come and watch as they raced their horses. Today it is the biggest annual outdoor social event in South Africa, drawing a crown of close to 50 000.

The first official J&B Met, in 1978, had a stake of R40 000. Today that has grown to an impressive R2500 000.

This year the J&B Met is inspired by the unique heritage of J&B Scotch Whisky - a whisky that is made like no other, a whisky that is “made different.”

It is in this spirit that J&B challenges the convention of what one would normally wear to the J&B Met. This year’s theme calls on supporters to break the rules and challenge the traditional. Those attending this year’s J&B MET are invited to take up the challenge and arrive at Kenilworth in something different.
