Food & Wine Pairing Evenings at the Red Herring
Each Monday night during Winter 2010 we will be hosting a food and wine pairing evening. The dinner will consist of 4 or courses, each designed around international and local produce with the intention of identifying combinations that will be included in our winter a la carte menu.
The dishes will be prepared by our kitchen team (headed up by Paul Beatham, co-owner of the Herring) and a guest chef on selected evenings. As each course is served, the chef who prepared it will give a brief explanation of the dish explaining why each ingredient was selected and how it was prepared.
Each course will be accompanied by a wine tasting. We have invited the estate wine maker to pair wines from the new list to the menu items.
On the evening, a representative of the estate is invited to introduce the wine to you with a brief chat about the estate, the selected wine and the reason for pairing it with the dish.
Monday 17th May - inaugural event
We kick off (albeit a bit late) on the 17th with a guest chef. Paul will be joined by Johan Breedt of The Westin Grand Hotel. Johan has come up with a mouth watering 4 course that includes ingredients such as assorted home baked breads, Ravioli Verdi, Daube aux Boeuf, homemade honey nougat and chocolate truffles to mention a few.
The courses are being paired with a selection of wines from the Lourensford Wine Estate, presented by winemaker Chris Joubert.
We look forward to entertaining our guests every Monday with a selection of eclectic dishes and wines to introduce new flavors and textures. Most importantly though is to have a fun social eating drinking evening.
