Tamsin from Lannice Snyman Publishers sent us this exciting news earlier today.
"I have just come off the phone to her after a very big night of celebrations and partying in London following the announcement of the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2009.
We are so proud to give you news that the international restaurant press is abuzz at the announcement last night that FIVE South African restaurants have been included in the World’s Top 100 restaurants.
Two South African restaurants appeared on the iconic 50 Best list. In 38th place is La Colombe and in 37th place is Le Quartier Francaiswho rocketed up the list by 13 places. Luke Dale-Roberts and Margot Janse were both at the awards last night!
This year shows lots of changes, notably the appearance of several relatively casual restaurants while some of the fine dining rooms around the world have exited the list. The more casual restaurants include Le Chateaubriand in France (40th), Asador Etxebarri in Spain (39th) and Momofuku Ssam Bar in USA (31st).
Margot Janse of Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek was also the proud recipient of the Aqua Panna Best Continental Award for the highest-ranking restaurant in The Middle East & Africa.
Jardine, Aubergine and Rust en Vrede make a fantastic appearance on the top 100 list.
Congratulations to all!
