Fallen tree at Belvidere Manor

Posted Thu, 19 Jul 2012 (21 months ago)

After standing sentinel in front of Belvidere Manor for over 100 years, the old eucalyptus tree was blown down in a storm early last Saturday morning.

Presiding over many celebrations, meals and just cups of tea the tree had provided shade and a home for Egyptian geese, weaver birds, drongos, orioles and the Knysna Turaco (Knysna Loerie).  Thankfully no-one was hurt, and minimal damage caused... just a few squashed chairs and flattened table, but General Manager, Sue Mills reported that there has been a great expression of sympathy from local residents and guests at its loss!

Removing the stump is proving to be a challenge, and a decision is still to be made as to what to plant in its place, but sections of the trunk have been placed around the gardens as a reminder of its presence.
