Don’t get LOST on Table Mountain

Posted Tue, 29 Jun 2010 (20 months ago)

What better place for any visitor to have a bird’s eye view of Cape Town, than the legendary Table Mountain.

BUT, as several recent unfortunate incidents on the mountain have reminded us, visitors who wish to walk or hike up Table Mountain must be well prepared, especially for inclement weather, it really is easy to get lost and it happens very fast.

Who better to guide you on your way than Binny Rigway of Ridgway Ramblers.

Portfolio Collection recommends this very special way to discover Table Mountain with a qualified guide specialising in hikes, walks and rambles.

Wilderness Search and Rescue suggested that mountain guides be used to show hikers safe routes on the mountain, to prevent them losing their way.

Hikers are advised to wear proper walking shoes, carry warm clothing and water, sunblock, and have torches (with batteries which work), a cd for signalling in an emergency

WSAR member Anwaaz Bent says that people often phone the incorrect numbers and this causes delays in activating WSAR rescues. He says this is a big problem for them.

Please make note of the safety advice, the emergency contact numbers, ensure you have a reputable guide and enjoy the splendour that is Table Mountain.
