More good news for South African movie fans and the local movie industry...

South African filmed movie District 9 may not have won at the PGA Awards but the box office hit is again set to shine at the BAFTA awards.

The movie that launched a thousand prawn jokes and proved Johannesburg to be a great filming location has been nominated for no less than SEVEN BAFTA awards.

The nominations include Best Director, Adapted Screenplay, Sound and Special Visual Effects (though as they’re up against Avatar for that one I have to say I won’t be holding my breath!)

It is worth remembering that in 2009 Slumdog Millionaire won seven BAFTAs, including best picture, and went on to win eight Oscars.

For a list of all nominees in all categories, refer to the BAFTA website.
