The word KOO, the trade name for the well known brand of canned fruit (and other foods) in South Africa, means 'cold' in the Khoi San language.
The KOO factory is found in (and named for) the Koo Valley outside Montagu in the Klein Karoo / Route 62 region of South Africa.
And speaking as someone who has recently been up in the mountains around Montagu, mid-Winter, I can tell you the area gets VERY, VERY. VERY COLD indeed!
