Cape Town Voted World's 2nd Best City

Posted Wed, 15 Jul 2009 (3 years ago)

No surprises as Cape Town once again gets voted in as a top destination city by international travellers.

Each year, travel magazine Travel & Leisure hold their “World’s Best” Awards, wherein readers vote for top global destinations (islands, cities etc) as well as top hotels and resorts, top travel agencies and the like.

Last year, Cape Town was voted 3rd Best City.

This year the eternally popular Mother City of South Africa made it to 2nd place, just behind Udaipur, India.

*sound of Graham Beck Brut NV corks popping”

We beat Bangkok, Florence, New York, Jerusalem and Quebec City among other über popular global destinations – nothing to be surprised about - but plenty for the whole country, especially Capetonians, to be proud of.

Travel & Leisure have posted a great feature article on Cape Town’s rising art and design scene which includes references to the ultra hip Neighbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, the Whatiftheworld gallery and design studio and the cutting edge Grand Daddy hotel in Long Street (known for its trailer park of Airstreams on the roof).

Coming to Cape Town?

I've been living in Cape Town for almost a year now. I originally come from Europe. I believe Cape Town is one of the coolest spots in the Southern hemisphere. It's location is very convenient. In am hour drive you have numerous trips worth while.

I agree - it's number 1 in my book too :-)

Cape Town Villa's - what is your fav city in the Northern Hemisphere? I've just returned from Prague and I think it gets my vote.
