Feeling the need to get a little fitter? Want to enjoy the outdoors a little more? Love animals? Why not get involved with the Johannesburg Zoo’s Zoo Trot Programme?
It’s a fantastic way to get outdoors within a safe environment and enjoy some exercise and fresh air, bright and early, on a Sunday morning. It’s great fun and a wonderful way to enjoy being outdoors whilst viewing some of our country’s most prized possessions: at least 200 animal species of our glorious wildlife!
The Zoo Trot
Everyone is welcome! This programme is aimed at the whole family, young and old, and promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle in either a fun 5km or 10km marked off route around the zoo. The choice is all yours! Enjoy a heart pounding run or a leisurely walk with friends or family. Try and beat your own running record or have some fun competing with your friends and family. Get in a good bit of skinner (SA: gossip) with your best mate or encourage a group of friends to exercise together. However you choose to do it, just have a bit of fun! That’s what it’s all about, after all.
The Zoo Trot is also a fantastic opportunity for parents and children to enjoy exercising together at their own pace. Once you’ve completed 3 consecutive walks or runs, you’ll even receive a medal, which is especially great for kids, giving them a well deserved sense of accomplishment!
Generally held on the second Sunday of each month, dates may vary a little. As a participant, you can complete as many rounds as you wish. It’s all about getting in some much needed exercise and enjoying the zoo. It’s definitely something that I intend to participate in more often!
