There was great excitement among soccer fans last week as all those who had been selected after applying for 2010 FIFA World Cup tickets in earlier ticketing rounds were notified of their successful applications. While some were disappointed not to have garnered more of their requested tickets, others were hoping they didn’t get ALL the tickets they’d applied for as it would be pretty expensive to have to pay up for so many!

News from FIFA on the eve of the fourth phase of sales (starting tomorrow 09 February and runs till 07 April) is that tickets for the following matches have sold out:

  • World Cup Final
  • Both Semi-finals
  • England V United States in Rustenburg on June 12
  • England V Slovenia in Port Elizabeth on June 23.
  • Italy V Paraguay in Cape Town on June 14
  • Brazil V Portugal in Durban on June 25

Important:

  • There are more than 400,000 seats still available.
  • The fourth phase of ticketing will be on a first come first serve basis via the Internet and FNB banks.
  • Over the counter ticket sales will kick off in April.
  • The third phase saw 585,175 tickets sold, 70% to local residents.

FIFA's Jerome Valcke said last week that there were tickets available for all matches, which FIFA had held back.

So I'm confused.
But it doesn't take much.

OK we have this following response from Cape Town Tourism:

"The official word from FIFA is that certain matches as indicated have been oversubscribed therefore tickets are not available for those games however there are still tickets available for the other games.

The next phase starting tomorrow will be on the first come first serve basis so instead of waiting longer for a draw and response you get the tickets immediately if you are successful.

If in this phase tickets are not yet sold out there will be a final phase which will be over the counter until all the tickets are sold out."

Hope that clears things up - please let us know if you come across any further conflicting information...
