Birdlovers of a feather will flock together at this year’s Stanford Stretton’s Bird Fair.
Apart from putting together a clutch of top-class birding experts including Vernon Head, chairman of BirdLife South Africa as well as the Cape Bird Club, the organisers are including some non-birding events of an ecologically-important nature.
Children from local schools will enjoy the ever-popular Eagle Encounters. Dave de Beer and Brummer Olivier, both recognised Overberg bird experts, will be heading up a number of field outings in order to track down the rich abundance of local birdlife.
2012 Stanford Birding Photographic Competition
The annual Stanford birding Photographic Competition was started by Philippa Castle in 2007 and has grown from strength to strength, providing much interest to the Stanford Bird Fair. Entrants may register online and upload up to 20 of their best birding photographs to stand in line to win any of the 11 prizes on offer.
1ST PRIZE 2011 Black Shouldered Kite by Bridgena Barnard
In addition to guided birding trips along the Kleinrivier at different times during the fair, the Apex Predator, kindly sponsored by Brian McFarlane, will again be in action from Kleinbaai on the morning of 28th September weather permitting. Later that day, the festive gin tasting provided by our sponsors will be held at the Art Gallery and this will be followed by the results and prize-giving for the annual photographic competition.
