As the countdown continues and the excitement mounts, more and more cars around Cape Town (and I assume the rest of SA) can be seen sporting flags and
mirror socks in support of Bafana (& one or two other teams).
In addition, shopping malls, restaurants, pubs and bars are all covered in World Cup related paraphernalia, and the traffic light brigade are selling up a storm of flags and vuvuzelas (we won't mention the non-official soccer jerseys).
As the first teams start arriving at OR Thambo in Johannesburg - the latest being world favourites Brazil who touched down this morning - Cashiers at supermarkets are wearing their teams colours and some are even donning ungainly but colourful makarapas.
You can't turn on a radio or TV without being blasted with World Cup exuberance, a vuvu 'paaaaaaaaarp' or Shakira and Freshly Ground's Waka Waka.
Schools all over the country are using soccer themes for projects and activities, and everyone is learning the South Africa National Anthem and being willingly swept along in a tide of patriotism.
The Portfolio Collection office is caught up with trying to track down last minute tickets on www.fifa.com (more available from 09h00 tomorrow!) and organising an office sweep.
It's an exciting and fun time to be living in South Africa and after such a long build up it's almost hard to believe that the 2010 World Cup is now close enough to taste.
